Image Quality & Video Performance

This lens offers exceptional image quality that is intended for professional-level, cinema-quality video capture. To achieve this, its internal lens structure is made up of 15 optical elements arranged into 12 groups, including 3 aspherical and 3 ED elements. It is this pathway combined with Fujifilm’s expert engineering, that enables not only flawless image capture but advanced Power Zoom functions to control Zoom, Focus, and Iris.

The lens is inspired by Fujifilm’s motion production lenses and as such is equipped with a variable power zoom, smooth manual focus, and stepless aperture control. Taking the place of a conventional focus ring is Fujifilm’s innovative zoom lever that offers variable zoom speed. And finally, further increasing efficiency, are two custom function buttons that allow you to preset constant zoom speed, focal length, or focus point.

Video-Focused

In addition to the already impressive array of video-focused features, the XF 18-120mm f4 LM PZ WR Lens has a few more tricks up its sleeve. These comes in two forms - seamless switching from Continuous AF to Manual AF while recording - and, minimal focus breathing and continuous iris control.

The latter is an integral part of a video-based lens. This lens offers a 35mm zoom range equivalent to a 27-183mm lens on full frame and a close focusing distance of 60cm throughout that range. The lens is opitmised so that there is minimal focus breathing - a common issue when filming where small changes in focal length of a lens occur as the focus is adjusted. And, as mentioned previously, the lens features pull focus that help your make precise and condition changes to the iris with causing noticeable distractions to the recorded footage.

Then there’s the continuous focus mode switching. When used with compatible camera bodies (firmware upgrade required), this lens offers seamless switching between continuous autofocus and manual focus while recording. This advanced design maximises your focus transitions options and allows you to take over from autofocussing if/or when the time is right.

Intelligent Design

There are many levels to the advanced and functional design of this lens. We see a lens that despite its expansive focal range, features an internal zoom function that provides a consistent length and weight through out the range. This allows the use of stablised gimbals for professional filmmaking - as the lens will maintain its centre of gravity.

Other physical decisions that increase productivity and efficiency alongside the physical controls on the lens barrel, include its weather-resistant design. Like many XF lenses, thorough weather-resistance allow you to continue using the lens when adverse weather would otherwise halt the course of a shoot. Furthermore, the front and rear lens elements feature a fluorine coating that is designed to repel dust and moisture from the lens surfaces, making them easy to clean.

How does it work?
